Need For Speed Company
Background
I got
into R/C boating when my mother bought me a cox control line airplane for
Christmas. The only sad thing is that the plane never did get off the ground,
someone had busted the foam wings. Over the years I collected cox .049 engines.
One day I had seen an ad in the R/C Modeler magazine for a dumas 18’’ wooden
hull that would accept a cox .049 engine with a heatsink on it. I proceeded to
order the hull through Dumas and put it together and painted it. I was never
to fond of Nitro engines, I always had a hard time starting them, and the old
cox .049 was no different. I didn’t get to many runs in with the Dumas hull but
I knew I was hooked.
That
winter I started to buy other magazines and found a company in Ontario called
LWK, who sold plans for boats that were 4’ and more in length. I ordered some
plans and put my first McColloch engine in a wooden boat. The boat ran about
20mph, was very dependable. Then just like everything else, I wanted to go
faster, so I began modifying the engines myself. Having an Automotive
background, and some machinist experience gave me what I needed to get started.
We have consulted with experts in snowmobile racing, and Chainsaw modifications
to end up where we are today. Don’t let anyone tell you a two-stroke engine is
easy to modify.
My wife
Juliette and I are the only two people involved in the business. I have been
involved in the hobby since the late 80’s. The Zenoah engine is the backbone of
the business. It is very rare that anything goes wrong with the engines when
they are new unless it is modified wrong, or was not getting the proper cooling.
We are the Canadian distributors for the Zenoah Marine Engine, also the G230 R/C
engine as well. We carry just about every part in stock for all engines.
